Is It Time To Take A Blogging Break? Take This Test and Find Out

3 July, 2008 Posted by Joanna As Snippets

Mediterranean Clyde

Is it time for you to take a blogging break?

Maybe the time you’re spending online is affecting your writing… or your life?

Take this (not 100% serious or scientifically proven) test and find out.

Is It Time For A Blogging Break?

(just follow the link to take the test)

Editor’s note:

The quiz has been created with survey gizmo - I wanted to do an experiment here ahead of some quizzes and surveys I want to add to Powerful Web Content. Any feedback on how easy (or otherwise) it is to do the quiz gratefully received.

Apologies to those of you reading in the southern hemisphere. The quiz is based around the idea that we’re moving into the height of summer. (Though if you were in Scotland you might find that quite an alien concept too).

Dearest Joanna, according to your little quiz, I’m not forever compromised to the offline world, but a break couldn’t hurt!

Fun test! I would only say some questions need more flexible options. For example, I am well aware of what Plurk is all about, but I don’t use it :)
Thanks for the fun time,
Alina

Nice test, Joanna.
Very easy to do - I liked it!

Could be just our firewall, but I took the survey and there was no “finish” to it. Wonder what I missed? :-(

Great test, Joanna, very quick and easy to do, thought-provoking questions and excellent advice!

Looking forward to lots more fun this Summer!

Thank you!

:o)

As much as I like quizzes, Joanna, this is one I can’t take- at least, not yet!

Perhaps, once I start blogging, I’ll test myself… Until then, I’ll avidly wait to see what your other readers say ;-)

love the quiz, Joanna. it suggested i take a cruise. i like that too =)

Alina, thanks for the feedback. I know what you mean about some questions being too constrained to answer - but I decided it was better to give this a go as an experiment rather than agonise over perfecting it. I’m glad you enjoyed it.

Ulla, thanks!

Robert - thanks for that, for some reason “finish” isn’t a default option at the end of these quizzes - I’ve gone in and added it in. (There wasn’t anything else more exciting you were missing I’m afraid!)

Scott, great restraint on your part. I find it very hard to resist quizzes. Hopefully you’ll soon be blogging so much you’ll need a break too.

Emily, I tried to create answers that would make everyone a winner. Glad you like yours :-)

I’m happy to report that I passed with flying colors - no need for me to take a break from my blogging. :-)
I have purposely only kept my online presence to my blog and one message board. That’s it. No MySpace or Twitter or Facebook or anything else.

Fun test here was my result

“You’re having a lot of fun exploring and creating online, but you’re aware of its addictive powers… and keeping a watchful eye on how it affects you. Maybe the summer is the perfect time for a change of scene, some time away from the screen, and some new adventures to blog about when you’re back? “

I just took a three month blogging break, and it was a very good decision. so I passed your test with flying colors also. Very fun.

Fun blog, as ever, Joanna. I like the new look!

The “You’re having a lot of fun exploring and creating online, but you’re aware of its addictive powers… and keeping a watchful eye on how it affects you” fits me. I am trying to slow down lately, but I fear neglecting my friends in the blogosphere.

Well, hey — I have picked up playing tennis and flew 2.5 miles in the air! But I can stand some more relaxing. Why, oh why does the USD stink in Europe — where I really want to go?

Joanna YoungNo Gravatar July 3, 2008

Melissa, sounds like you’ve got a clear plan for managing your online presence. Sometimes I think I need to scale back a bit… but Twitter is too much fun!

David, glad you enjoyed it and thanks for the stumble :-)
Kris, I admire you for taking a break and jumping back in with such energy and colour. Plus it’s great to see you back. The wonder of RSS feeds makes it easier of course. Funny you mention the look - it’s not supposed to look like this. Typepad’s gone mad on me - hopefully it’ll be back to the way it’s ’supposed’ to look soon

Meryl, it can be hard juggling the time we invest in people on and offline… though I guess friends in either place will understand. Congrats on the sky dive - what an achievement! Sorry I can’t do anything about the dollar - but hope you make it over to Europe anyway :-)

Hey Joanna, I’m too swamped at the moment to take your quiz, but I do know that I need to pare my life way down (and as you know, that’s exactly what I’ve been doing).

With the ease of setting up blogs, it’s too easy to take on too much as there is always one more great project that you can’t refuse. Projects you should refuse. Well, projects I should refuse anyway.

I have just the one more blog I HAVE to have, and them I’m done. Yeah ;-)

Joanna YoungNo Gravatar July 4, 2008

Hi Cat, here’s a special prize for being so in need of a break you don’t have time for the quiz http://tinyurl.com/6zz24z

It’s a good point about the ease of setting up blogs, and the false promise that brings about how things will be later… Got something from Brad on this theme coming up in the next week or so

Meantime, keep paring and keep focusing on you!

Hi Joanna,

Fortunately, the test results reveal that I am not yet an addict.

However, I am in danger of going down that path. Last summer, I discovered that ice coffee was better than regular coffee, and nowadays, I just cannot go more than half a day without having one, even during winter as it snows outside.

Is there a recovery program for blogging addicts?

Joanna YoungNo Gravatar July 8, 2008

Hi Andrew

I guess self-awareness is the first step to beating any addiction :-)
Time out is the only recovery I know of for blogging addiction… which is why I’m planning some soon. The best bit is when you come back you find you’re enjoying the reading and writing again, rather than going through the motions.

Hope you find a program that works for you!

Joanna
